I have similar memories from around 1990 when I was an intern at New York Theater Workshop, which had offices on 42nd near 8th.Short film of Times Square in NYC before it got Disneyed. Pretty interesting, especially for anyone who remembers it that way.
I worked in Times Square in the mid-1980s, before the Disneyfication, and it was actually kind of scary to walk across 42nd Street, even in the morning in broad daylight. My most terrifying moment was when a giant Cabbage Patch Kid ran after me down Broadway one day, but that’s for another post. (I also have a vague memory of being followed by a hot dog outside Nathan’s once, but I may actually have imagined that one.)
